In February each year, we publish the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER) datasets and register for the previous financial year.
The datasets and register include:
- corporate emissions and energy data
- electricity sector emissions and generation data
- the name of each person that registered the previous reporting year.
Latest data published on 28 February 2024.
Comparing published data between years
When comparing total emissions between reporting years, it is important to note that each year there may be minor changes to the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (Measurement) Determination 2008, and in the number of reporters and facilities that meet the publication threshold and a reporting threshold. We take all reasonable efforts to ensure the information published on our website is accurate at the time of publication.

Corporate emissions and energy data
Corporations registered under the Act must report their greenhouse gas emissions, and energy production and consumption by 31 October each year.
By 28 February the following year, we're required to publish a point-in-time extract of reported scope 1 and scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions in addition to net energy consumption for each corporation that exceeds the publication threshold.
This data also includes information about reporting transfer certificates, and liability transfer certificates for the 2011–12 to 2013–14 reporting periods. This is required by legislation.
For the 2010–12 reporting periods, net energy consumption figures were provided voluntarily by registered corporations and has been included in corporate emissions and energy data below.
From 2012–13, net energy consumption data was included in the corporate emissions and energy data table.
- Corporate emissions and energy data 2021-2022
- Corporate emissions and energy data 2020-2021
- Corporate emissions and energy data 2019-2020
- Corporate emissions and energy data 2018-2019
- Corporate emissions and energy data 2017-2018
- Corporate emissions and energy data 2016-2017
- Corporate emissions and energy data 2015-2016
- Corporate emissions and energy data 2014-2015
- Corporate emissions and energy data 2013-2014
- Corporate emissions and energy data 2012-2013
- Corporate emissions and energy data 2011-2012
- Corporate emissions and energy data 2010-2011
- Corporate emissions and energy data 2009-2010
- Corporate emissions and energy data 2008-2009
Only some corporations have their emissions and energy information published due to one or more of the following reasons:
- a registered corporation may not have met any of the reporting thresholds
- a registered corporation may not have met the publication threshold
- a registered corporation may not have submitted a report in time for this publication
- a registered corporation may have applied under section 25 of the Act to have all or part of its greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption totals withheld from publication.
Electricity sector emissions and generation data
We publish a point-in-time extract of electricity sector emissions and generation data each year.
Unlike the corporate emissions and energy data set, which is published at a controlling corporation level, the electricity sector emissions and generation data is published at a designated generation facility level.
A 'designated generation facility' is a facility whose principal activity is electricity production. Facilities that generate electricity for their own use or as a secondary activity are not included in this dataset.
From 2014–15, we began publishing total sectoral emissions and generation data – providing greater transparency in terms of how the sector is tracking in relation to the sectoral baseline set under the Safeguard Mechanism.

Discontinued reporting
Prior to the introduction of the CERT report, we published annual NGER reports with data from registered corporations and reporting transfer certificate holders that met the publication threshold.

- GreenPower purchases, Renewable Energy Certificates and offset scope 2 emission totals 2014–2015
- GreenPower purchases, Renewable Energy Certificates and offset scope 2 emission totals 2013–2014

Net energy consumption data is now published as part of the corporate emissions and energy datasets.
For the 2010-11 and 2011-12 reporting periods, net energy consumption figures were provided voluntarily by the registered corporations.
Net energy consumption is calculated by subtracting the energy content of the secondary fuels and energy commodities produced from the operation of the facility from the total energy consumed by the operation of a facility.
Each facility's net energy is added together to get the corporation group's total net energy figure.
Also, where a reporting transfer certificate report has been made, the energy consumption from the operation of a facility is adjusted by deducting the energy content of the secondary fuels and energy commodities produced from the total energy consumed by the operation of the facility.
