Accredited power stations

If you want to participate in the REGO using a Large-scale Renewable Energy Target accredited power station, you still need to follow our step-by-step process.

Registering means you can continue to create certificates after 2030.

Steps to participate

To be eligible for the REGO and create REGO certificates, your facility must meet the Future Made in Australia (Guarantee of Origin) Act 2024 (GO Act) definition of a facility. It must also generate or store electricity from an eligible renewable energy source.

You can transfer and retire certificates, even if you don’t own or operate a facility, by becoming a registered person.

Learn about eligibility for the REGO.

You must apply to be a registered person through Online Services before registering your facility and creating or transferring certificates. To apply, you must be a fit and proper person and maintain this status. You may also have to pay a registration fee.

To become a registered person, you can be an individual, a business or other legal person.

Registration suspension or cancellation

We may suspend or cancel your registration if you:

  • don’t comply with scheme rules
  • provide false or misleading information
  • are no longer fit and proper.

You must tell us within 28 days if something happens that could affect your fit and proper person status.

Relevant legislation

  • Section 24 and 25 of the GO Act

Once you become a registered person, you can complete a facility registration application in Online Services and pay the registration fee. Registering a facility allows you to create certificates.

Registered facilities also pay an annual charge as part of our cost recovery process.

Once your facility is registered, you can start creating REGO certificates.

You can create REGO certificates for all eligible renewable electricity generated or stored and dispatched. This includes renewable electricity from an eligible renewable energy source that is:

  • generated by power stations accredited under the Renewable Energy Target
  • generated by existing or new generation facilities
  • stored in and dispatched from energy storage facilities
  • generated or dispatched by aggregated generation and energy storage systems
  • exported overseas.
