The first project has been registered under the Nature Repair Market scheme – a new scheme designed to restore and protect our natural environment.

The project, located in the north-east of New South Wales, is expected to restore 438 hectares of previously cleared land through the replanting native forest and woodland ecosystems method. The replanting method, which is the first method under the scheme, opened on 1 March 2025 and supports replanting native forests and woodland ecosystems on previous cleared land for environmental restoration.

The replanting of this land intends to improve biodiversity and ecological connectivity. The proponent has also registered a project on the same site under the Australian Carbon Credit Unit Scheme, using the reforestation by environmental or mallee plantings FullCAM method. As the plantings grow and absorb carbon from the atmosphere, the project will be eligible to earn carbon credits.

With this registration, we are also launching the Biodiversity Market Register. The register supports market transparency by allowing people to view detailed project information, monitor progress and follow certificate ownership once issued.

The Biodiversity Market Register provides details on the first registered project, including:

The Nature Repair Market scheme is open to landholders, First Nations peoples, farmers, conservation groups, and others interested in restoring or protecting natural ecosystems. By enhancing existing ecosystems or replanting cleared land, participants can play a vital role in shaping Australia’s environmental future.
