We want to understand how to make it easier for landholders and land managers, including farmers and traditional owners, to participate in the Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) Scheme.
Background
We're undertaking user research with landholders and land managers, including farmers and traditional owners, and the carbon and agriculture sectors. This will inform new ways to make it easier for people to access and participate in the ACCU Scheme and create more benefits for landholders and land managers, service providers in the carbon and agriculture sectors, and the environment.
The ACCU Scheme is a voluntary scheme that provides incentives for a range of organisations and individuals to adopt new practices and technologies to reduce their emissions or store carbon.
Technical rules for project eligibility and the claiming of benefits can be difficult to navigate and understand. We want to better understand and address barriers to participation in the ACCU Scheme for landholders and land managers. This includes learning more about farmer and traditional owner perspective.

We're exploring what tools and support can help landholders and land managers to participate in the ACCU Scheme. We're looking at the benefits that online education and support tools can deliver for the scheme. This work will leverage the technology uplift currently being delivered by us to introduce a new portal, enhanced geographic information system capability and a more streamlined registration and crediting process.
We're undertaking user research with landholders and land managers (including farmers and traditional owners) and the carbon and agriculture sectors to inform new ways to make it easier for people to access and participate in the scheme. We also want to create more benefits for landholders and land managers, service providers in the carbon and agriculture sectors, and the environment.
If you work in the carbon or agriculture industry, are a landholder or land manager (including farmers and traditional owners), or are currently participating in the ACCU Scheme, we would like to hear from you about:
- your knowledge and experience with carbon farming and the scheme (if any)
- problems with registering and participating
- ways to make it easier to manage a project and gain the benefits of the scheme.
The results of this user research will support the next stage in this work to co-design, with key stakeholder groups, a suite of online education and support tools.
Create and release a suite of online education and support tools to support landholders and land managers to participate in the ACCU Scheme.
