The Clean Energy Regulator is preparing to take on a new role in regulating interoperable consumer energy resources in Australia.
The regulatory role will provide a consistent, national approach to regulating the interoperability technical standards of consumer energy resources. This could include devices such as inverters for rooftop solar, batteries and electric vehicle chargers. It will help devices work together, remove technical barriers and give consumers greater choice when engaging with providers or services.
The new role will build on the Clean Energy Regulator’s existing experience regulating national energy devices and installer schemes and will be developed in consultation with industry and other stakeholders.
