Agency holiday closure and submitting your 2022 exemption certificate amendments
The Clean Energy Regulator (CER) will close from 5 pm Friday 23 December 2022 to 9 am Tuesday 2 January 2023.
You must lodge an amendment by 31 December 2022 if any of the following applies to your 2022 exemption certificate:
- any changes to your electricity retailer (including if you changed retailers during the year)
- amendments relating to other changes to your EITE activity or activities site/s.
You will need to report any changes that occurred during the 2022 assessment year through the 'Apply to amend your exemption certificate' form in the Client Portal.
We can provide support if you complete this before 23 December 2022. The CER may consider your exemption certificate or certifiable amount invalid if you fail to lodge an amendment by the deadline.
Submitting data for your 2022 certifiable amount
Participants are required to submit monthly data to the CER to receive a notice of certifiable amount.
Failure to submit your data by 16 January 2023 may delay the assessment of your notice of certifiable amount. This may impact your electricity retailer's reporting and surrender obligation by 14 February 2023.
The CER may contact you in the new year to remind participants. Please ensure that your contact details are correct, or a secondary contact is nominated if you are taking leave.
Participants must enter and submit data using the 'Exemption determination tool' in the Client Portal. View Submitting data for your certifiable amount for more information and guidance.
2023 exemption certificate applications
Applications for 2023 exemption certificates are open and must be made by 30 March 2023.
The CER does not have discretion to vary the deadline. We encourage you to start your application early to ensure it is submitted on time.
Please note that applications made in previous years will not roll over. You must apply annually.
You may need to engage an auditor to prepare an audit report if your facility's electricity consumption is expected to be more than 15,000 megawatt hours (MWh) for the 2023 calendar year. The frequency required to submit an audit report with your exemption certificate application has changed to 5 years.
