The improved native forest management method 2026 is now available under the Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCU) Scheme.
Projects under this method generate ACCUs by stopping timber harvesting in defined areas of public native forest to reduce overall harvesting across the project area.
This new method abates carbon emissions by:
- sequestering carbon in trees and debris that would have otherwise been removed by harvesting
- avoiding greenhouse gas emissions from post-harvest burns.
State or territory governments, or those with approval from a relevant state or territory government, can now apply to use the method in Online Services.
