Greenbot Pty Ltd has discontinued the Federal Court proceedings that challenged our decisions to:
- suspend Greenbot as a registered person in the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES)
- terminate Greenbot’s deed to be an app provider in the Solar Panel Validation (SPV) initiative.
Greenbot has also withdrawn its application to the Administrative Review Tribunal seeking a review of our decision to suspend its registration.
This means that all small-scale technology certificates (STCs) applications (including signed data packages) generated through the Greenbot app must be submitted to us by 11:59 pm on 8 July 2025. If you have installation records or other important data stored in the Greenbot app, we recommend that you download or make copies of this information as soon as possible.
The Federal Court proceedings followed an investigation into the conduct of Greenbot and its platform, which included an online trading portal and mobile phone application. A failure of its platform led to the creation of STCs that did not meet the requirements of the SRES under the Renewable Energy Target (RET). Based on these findings, we suspended Greenbot from participating in the SRES and terminated their deed to participate as an app provider in the SPV initiative.
We have consented to the discontinuation of the Federal Court proceedings brought by Greenbot under the following terms:
- Permanent suspension from the SRES – Greenbot will remain permanently suspended from participating in the SRES and can no longer create renewable energy certificates, which includes STCs. Greenbot were permanently suspended on 11 June 2024 (effective from 18 October 2024 after the Federal Court-ordered stay was lifted).
- Termination of the SPV app provider deed – We have terminated the deed that allowed Greenbot to be an SPV app provider under the SPV initiative. The termination will take effect on 9 July 2025. This transition period allows scheme participants to complete any outstanding STC creations using the Greenbot platform.
We have also suspended entities related to Greenbot, which include the Emerging Energy Solutions Group Pty Ltd and Netzero Environmental Pty Ltd. These suspensions were also related to the fit and proper person status of the entities.
