Discussion papers outlining the proposed policy design for the Guarantee of Origin scheme are now live and open for feedback.

The Guarantee of Origin (GO) scheme would provide a mechanism to track and verify emissions associated with hydrogen and could be expanded to include a range of other products made in Australia. It would also provide an ongoing mechanism for renewable electricity certification.

The scheme would enable Australian industry to meet growing domestic and international demand for certified renewable energy and clean products.

The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (the Department) are seeking feedback on the policy design of the GO scheme.

Following this consultation, legislation will be developed to enable the scheme to commence in 2024.

The scheme design is the result of extensive consultation beginning in 2020, involving an initial discussion paper in June 2021, GO trials run by the Department and the Clean Energy Regulator, and targeted stakeholder engagement.

Read the discussion papers for an overview of the scheme and submit your feedback via the Department’s consultation hub.

Submissions close Friday 3 February 2023.
