The Clean Energy Regulator (CER) acknowledges the outstanding contribution of David Parker AM, who today concludes his second term leading the agency.

Mr Parker is retiring after a 40 plus-year career in the public service, including 9 years as Chair and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the CER.

The role of the agency has grown under his leadership, including the ongoing maturation of Australia’s carbon market and the implementation of new clean energy schemes.

‘So much has happened in 9 years; we've transitioned to being a steward of the market and worked hard at protecting the ongoing integrity of the carbon market,’ Mr Parker said.

Throughout his tenure, Mr Parker has built a positive workplace culture with a strong focus on making practical, grounded, quick and commercially savvy decisions.

Mr Parker said it had been a privilege to lead the CER and work alongside its people.

‘I leave the agency in awe of the staff and their achievements. The expertise of the agency’s people and its proven track record positions the CER to meet any new tasks assigned to us by the government with confidence,’ he said.

‘The culture we’ve built at the CER is deeply embedded and like any strong DNA, our culture will continue to guide the agency as it evolves.

In the APS Employee Census, the CER consistently rates higher than the broader Australian Public Service average across many criteria. In stakeholder surveys the CER is rated as a highly trusted institution.  The agency is known for getting things done and is regarded as a great place to work.

‘The future of the CER is bright, with the rollout of the Cheaper Home Batteries Program well underway and our new Consumer Energy National Technical Regulatory role continuing to drive and accelerate carbon abatement for Australia.’

CER Executive General Manager Carl Binning has been appointed as acting Chair and CEO.

The CER thanks Mr Parker for his leadership and service and wishes him every success in his future endeavours.
