We’re committed to paying all suppliers on time.

We pay supplier invoices in accordance with the timeframes and requirements set out in the Australian Government's Supplier Pay On-Time or Pay Interest Policy.

Payment terms apply once we have:

  • acknowledged the satisfactory delivery of the goods or services
  • received a correctly rendered invoice.

If you have entered into a contract with us, we will only accept an invoice after both parties have signed the contract and we have provided a contract number.

Invoicing the Clean Energy Regulator (CER)

A correctly rendered invoice meets the invoicing requirements set out in your contract with us. Your contract may contain additional or specific invoicing requirements, depending on the goods or services being provided.

Your invoice should include:

  • your business name and ABN
  • the invoice date and invoice number
  • CER's details including address and ABN, where required
  • the name or details of the relevant CER contact
  • a clear description of the goods or services provided
  • the quantity and price of the goods or services, where applicable
  • the GST amount, where applicable
  • the total amount payable
  • the relevant contract number or reference number
  • your payment details, such as your nominated bank account details
  • any other information or supporting documentation required under your contract.

If you are registered for GST, your invoice must also meet the applicable ATO requirements for a tax invoice.

Providing complete and accurate information helps us pay your invoice promptly. We will contact you if there is an issue with your invoice. If information is missing or incorrect, provide the corrected information promptly to help minimise delays.

Invoice format

We accept invoices in any format but encourage suppliers to use eInvoicing where available. It is a secure way to submit invoices and allows us to process payments more efficiently.

You can submit your invoice via the Peppol network. See compatible providers on the Peppol Service Provider Register. eInvoices submitted through the Peppol network must meet the applicable eInvoicing requirements. Learn more about eInvoicing and how to get started with the Australian Taxation Office's eInvoicing for businesses guidance.

If you don’t use eInvoicing, you can send your invoice to CER-Invoicing@cer.gov.au, unless your contract specifies another method.

Payments and interest

We generally pay suppliers directly into their nominated bank account by electronic funds transfer (EFT).

If your business accepts credit card payments, we may use a corporate credit card for goods or services with a total contract value below $10,000.

We’re committed to paying suppliers on time, regardless of the size of your business. If we don’t make payment within the applicable maximum payment term, we may need to pay interest if the interest accrued exceeds $100. This is in accordance with the conditions and exemptions in the Supplier Pay On-Time or Pay Interest Policy.

Missing or incorrect information may delay the processing and payment of your invoice and any entitlement to interest.
