This guideline is designed to help people understand what constitutes a 'facility' for the purposes of the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007 and associated legislation.

This guideline is intended to help stakeholders to comply with National Greenhouse Energy and Reporting requirements for estimation and reporting of emissions and energy from fuel combustion.

This document helps reporters estimate greenhouse gas emissions and energy. It should be read in conjunction with relevant legislation in its current form at the time of reading.

This guideline provides information to assist registered entities to define and report their energy production and consumption data.

The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water is undertaking public consultation on proposed updates to the NGER Scheme. The consultation period is now open and will close on Friday 24 May 2024.

The amendments are proposed to commence on 1 July 2024 unless stated otherwise and would apply to future NGER reports, starting with those submitted by 31 October 2025 for the 2024–25 NGER reporting year.

This guide sets out the manner and form requirements for reports submitted under sections 19, 22G and 22X of the NGER Act.

Each year, Australian corporations that meet certain thresholds are required to report their emissions and energy information to us. This data helps inform government policy and programs and meet Australia’s international reporting obligations.
