The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has issued an electrical safety recall of a product being used by some retailers under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES).

The recall was issued by Sigenergy for their single phase 8/10/12 kW energy controllers.

The ACCC manages a national recalls system for consumer products and has published more information about this recall on their website.

Safety is our highest priority, and comprehensive controls underpin the SRES.

Sigenergy has had reports of issues with a small proportion of products. There have been around 100 inverters impacted. Sigenergy is committed to rectifying this issue and is working with the ACCC, state and territory electrical safety regulators and installers to ensure the ongoing safety of the affected product.

Consumers will receive a notification via the mySigen app if their product is affected by the recall. Consumers should ensure their systems are connected to the internet, so they can receive a firmware update to allow Sigenergy to update and monitor their system proactively.

Consumers will receive a free replacement product that has an updated AC plug and will be contacted by their retailer or Sigenergy Australia service partner to arrange replacements.

This recall shows that established regulatory systems have worked effectively to keep consumers safe and safety issues are identified and managed quickly.
In order to qualify for small-scale technology certificates (STCs), batteries must be installed consistently with CEC and state and territory electrical safety requirements.

The CEC has added Sigenergy's updated product with the new AC plug to its approved product list.

We apply strict standards for product and installer accreditation, and any system eligible for support must be installed in accordance with state and territory electrical safety regulation.

We have been conducting inspections on solar batteries installed since 1 July.

We are working closely with Sigenergy to process applications for STCs. We’ll publish regular updates on our website about affected Sigenergy products.
