Under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme, only listed models on the register of solar water heaters are eligible for small-scale technology certificates (STC).

Solar water heaters and air source heat pumps must meet certain requirements to be listed on the register.

Solar water heater accreditation

All listed solar water heaters and air source heat pumps must have Australian and New Zealand Standard 2712:2007 (AS/NZS 2712:2007) certification. You must provide an AS/NZS 2712:2007 licensing schedule identifying the models you want to list on the register.

We do not accept submissions that don't have this certification. Manufacturers should speak with their conformity assessment body before the application closing date.

Conformity assessment bodies accredited under the joint accreditation system of Australia and New Zealand provide all certification to AS/NZS 2712:2007.

Solar water heater models with a storage capacity of 700 L or less

These models must get a model product certification to AS/NZS 2712:2007 by a conformity assessment body.

Air source heat pumps must have a storage capacity of 425 L or less to be eligible under the scheme.

Solar water heater models with a storage capacity of more than 700 L

These models must have components certified to the relevant Australian standards by a conformity assessment body. Find the list of relevant standards in clause 1.4 of AS/NZS 2712:2007.

These models must also meet the storage tank requirements set out in Australian Standard 4692.1:2005 or the heat loss test procedure.

Before submitting, ensure you used the correct method to calculate certificate entitlements.

  • Log in to Client Portal.
  • Fill in all contact details in part 2, ensuring you can be contacted during assessment.
  • Confirm model names listed in part 6 match the model names listed on your AS/NZS 2712:2007 schedule.
  • Complete the audit submission statement in part 7 and ensure all required files for an audit are available.
  • Read and sign the declaration.

We review each model in your application against the AS/NZS 2712:2007 licensing schedule.

We also audit selected models to make sure their STC entitlements have been calculated correctly. We may request that you provide more information like test reports and TRNSYS files.

If you have listed the models or calculated STCs incorrectly, we won't approve your application.

Before we publish the register, we will ask you to review each model to make sure they are listed correctly.

Once we publish the register, STCs can be created for newly approved and listed models.
