Revocation of the Avoided Deforestation 1.1 method

The Minister for Climate Change and Energy revoked the Avoided Deforestation 1.1 method under the Australian Carbon Credit Unit scheme, previously known as the Emissions Reduction Fund, on 14 February 2023.

The Avoided Deforestation 1.1 method previously credited emissions reductions to landholders who protected native forest rather than permanently converting them to cropland or grassland.

Quarterly Carbon Market Report highlights uptick for household energy systems

The Clean Energy Regulator's (CER) September Quarterly Carbon Market Report (QCMR) highlights the start of increasing rooftop solar PV installations from August, paving the way for a boost to small-scale renewables going into Q4.

According to the report, an estimated 729 megawatts (MW) of small-scale PV capacity was installed this quarter, an improvement from the first half of the year and almost back to the Q3 record level seen in 2021.

Making it easier to submit ERF mapping data

The Clean Energy Regulator will pilot a new geospatial data upload and validation process for Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF) projects.

Geospatial data is an important feature to demonstrate eligibility of area-based projects registered and reporting under the ERF. Geospatial information is required for most land sector projects because abatement is determined by the location and characteristics of the land where the project mechanism occurs.

Applications open in second pilot window for ERF fixed delivery exit arrangement

The second pilot window for the fixed delivery exit arrangement is now open. Exit applications can now be made for Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) deliveries scheduled from 1 July 2022 to 31 December 2022.

This window continues the pilot of the exit arrangements and the Government will further consider its future use in light of the final Safeguard Mechanism design and the Independent Review of ACCUs.
