Projects under this method can earn Australian carbon credit units (ACCUs) by converting logging forests into protected, native forests.
When to use this method
The designated verified carbon standard method may be suitable for your business if you have:
- the ability to protect native forestry
- a logging forest that you'd convert to be a native forest
- been registered under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) before 18 June 2018.
Legislation
Before you plan or register your project, make sure you read and understand the legislative requirements and the method.
Eligibility
Projects are eligible if they're:
- protecting native forests
- approved in the VCS methodology.
This method applies to projects registered:
- in VCS before the start of Carbon Farming Initiative Amendment Act 2014
- before June 30 2015.
Method requirements
The sole project activity is to protect native forests and not harvest them.
Projects produce abatement by avoiding emissions from:
- harvesting that would occur in the project area without the project
- sequestering carbon that wouldn't occur without the project.
