A new soil carbon method is now available under the Emissions Reduction Fund.
A soil carbon project aims to store additional carbon in agricultural soils which has the effect of reducing the level of carbon dioxide, an important greenhouse gas, in the atmosphere.
The new 2021 soil carbon method came into effect on 1 December 2021
The new method represents a step-change in how landholders can participate in the ERF. For the first time, the new method will allow modelled estimates of soil carbon change to be used in combination with measurement approaches, which is expected to materially reduce costs and increase returns. The method also increases flexibility for participants and introduces improvements to address issues with the 2018 method, including problems with how the method calculates abatement.
To transfer an existing project to the new method please submit an application through the Client Portal.
