Entities can now apply to become an approved scheme and operator for installer and designer accreditation under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES).
The Clean Energy Regulator (CER) has formally opened a three-month window for interested parties to submit an application that meets the requirements set out in s20BH of the Renewable Energy (Electricity) Regulations 2001 (REE Regulations). This follows the CER publishing the application form and guidance on 1 December 2022 to allow prospective applicants additional time to consider whether they have the required skills and capabilities to apply.
Renewable Energy Target Branch General Manager Matthew Power said the application round is an opportunity for bodies with the right capability to operate an accreditation scheme and play an important role in the integrity of the SRES.
“This is the next important step we are required to perform under the REE Regulations to strengthen scheme integrity,” Mr Power said.
Consistent with the REE Regulations, the CER is required to conduct a process to approve one or more accreditation scheme operators that meet statutory requirements and evaluation criteria.
“Interested parties should review the information and guidelines published on our website and apply if they have the capability and capacity to provide high quality accreditation services and maintain rigorous industry standards.
“In line with the REE Regulations, if all regulatory requirements are met by applicants, their schemes are eligible to be approved.”
Until a decision is made to select one or more approved scheme operators, the Clean Energy Council will continue as the sole accreditor of installers and designers under the SRES.
