Under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative) Act 2011 we have 90 days to process Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) Scheme applications to:
- register a project
- vary a project
- credit a project.
Our average processing time is 6 weeks or 30 business days.
We assess completed applications in the order we receive them. We consider applications complete when we have received all information required by the applicable legislation. This includes any information we have sought in a Request for Further Information (RFI).
If you do not respond to an RFI and provide the required information to us by the due date, we may refuse to take further action for the application.
Delays to processing times
Certain factors may delay your application assessment, including:
- the quality and detail of information you have provided
- the complexity and newness of the method
- current assessment workloads.
You should avoid calling our staff to follow up on applications as this can slow the assessment process. If you haven’t heard from us about the status of your application, it means we're still assessing it.
If we need further information, we will send a request within 2 weeks of receiving your application.
If we are likely to refuse your application, we aim to contact you early in the assessment process.
How you can help
To help us process your application on time, you should:
- apply as early as possible
- make sure your application is complete and includes all required information
- avoid peak processing periods.
