The first method for the Nature Repair Market scheme is now available – the replanting native forest and woodland ecosystem method. The method enhances biodiversity in native species by replanting native forest and woodland ecosystems in previously cleared landscapes.
We are responsible for administering the scheme, including:
- registering projects
- issuing biodiversity certificates
- ensuring compliance
- publishing project information on the Biodiversity Market Register.
The market is a world-first legislated, national, voluntary biodiversity market designed to drive investment in projects that restore and protect our natural environment.
The scheme will deliver improved biodiversity outcomes in various ways, such as:
- planting trees on farmland
- re-establishing vegetation along waterways
- encouraging the use of biodiversity Indigenous knowledge, guided by the knowledge owners.
Project proponents can earn a biodiversity certificate for each project that achieves a biodiversity outcome. They can then sell the certificate on the open market.
During the initial stages of the scheme, we will help applicants with their first applications to support project registration. To find out how to get involved or for support, email us at naturerepairmarket@cer.gov.au or call us on 1300 553 542.
