The reformed Safeguard Mechanism commenced on 1 July 2023 and applies to Safeguard facilities from the 2023-24 financial year onwards. The Clean Energy Regulator (CER) has updated the Safeguard Mechanism section of our website to reflect these changes. These updates include:
- general information about key parts of the reformed scheme, including:
- declining baselines
- managing excess emissions
- Safeguard Mechanism credit units (SMCs)
- information about new data publication requirements
- key dates for responsible emitters.
