The Emissions Reduction Assurance Committee is seeking stakeholder submissions on a proposed new methodology under the Emissions Reduction Fund: The Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative— Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models) Methodology Determination 2021.

The 2021 soil carbon method builds on the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative— Measurement of Soil Carbon Sequestration in Agricultural Systems) Methodology Determination 2018. The new method will support greater uptake of soil projects by reducing the costs of measurement through the use of models, and by increasing flexibility for participants. The method also introduces improvements to address issues with the 2018 method including problems with how the method calculates abatement.

The consultation documents are available on the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resource's (DISER) consultation hub.

You can upload your submissions to DISER’s consultation hub. The consultation period is open now and will close at 11:59 pm (AEST) Monday 27 September 2021.

Visit DISER’s Consultation Hub or our soil carbon method development tracker for more information.
