Published on 04/07/2024

UPDATE: the Federal Court has issued a temporary stay of the Regulator’s decisions to (i) suspend Greenbot as a registered person under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme and (ii) terminate the deed allowing Greenbot to be an app provider under the SPV Initiative. The Court’s order means that Greenbot will be allowed to create certificates in the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme, and to participate in the SPV Initiative, while the Court is reviewing the matter. We will keep you updated as further information becomes available.

On 11 June 2024, the Clean Energy Regulator (CER) suspended the registration of Greenbot Pty Ltd (Greenbot) under section 30A of the Renewable Energy (Electricity) Act 2000. Greenbot can no longer create renewable energy certificates (certificates).

The decision follows an investigation into the conduct of Greenbot including the administration of its online trading portal and mobile telecommunication application (together being the Greenbot platform). The platform facilitates the creation of certificates in the CER’s REC Registry.

The CER has suspended Greenbot because it is satisfied that Greenbot is not a fit and proper person.

The CER understands that its decision, while a consequence of Greenbot’s conduct, may impact rooftop solar retailers. Those affected can access further information on the CER’s website.
