A privacy impact assessment (PIA) identifies the impacts a project might have on the privacy of individuals. It sets out recommendations for managing, minimising, or eliminating that impact.
Since 1 July 2018, we are required to conduct PIAs for all high privacy risk projects. We are also required to publish a register of the PIAs we conduct. You can request a copy of a PIA by making a freedom of information request.
Once a PIA is complete the PIA register is updated as soon as practical. At a minimum it is updated twice a year by 30 June and 31 December.
If you would like more information about PIAs or how we process them, contact us.

We also participated in a PIA on the Nature Repair Market scheme (19 June 2024), which was prepared for the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. Our responses to several of that PIA’s recommendations are noted in this PIA. For more information, consult the department and its register of PIAs on their website.
