The purpose of this regulatory advice is to clarify the requirement for accounting for the use of electricity delivered from the grid, for projects using the Carbon Credits (CFI) (Capture and Combustion of Methane in Landfill Gas from Legacy Waste: Upgrade projects) Methodology Determination 2012 (the determination).
This clarification is necessary because references to the period for which grid electricity must be accounted for, in Division 3.2 of the determination, are inconsistent.
Elsewhere, the determination is clear that electricity delivered from the grid and used by the project must be accounted for only where that electricity was delivered prior to 1 July 2012.
This requirement is stipulated in the determination in the greenhouse gas assessment boundary (Division 3.1 and Equation 1 of Division 3.2), and in the data collection requirements (Division 3.3).
For proponents reporting for periods on or after 1 July 2012, there is no requirement to account for electricity delivered from the grid and used by the project.
